Case Study 5

Modernisation and refurbishment of the existing kitchen area, to include the design and build of a new servery counter, to service staff and a public café area.

Stellex were excited to be involved in a major new development right on our doorstep. Wansbeck District Council and Northumberland County Council have jointly developed Woodhorn as a flagship visitor attraction in the North of England. The £17m project has attracted £10m from the Heritage Lottery Fund, with additional support from the Northern Rock Foundation, the Northumberland Strategic Partnership, the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and English Heritage.

Providing a servery design that would reflect the industrial architecture of the site whilst bringing it up to date with the contemporary feel of the new building, was always going to be a challenge. But the design and quality of the counter provided by Stellex have exceeded my expectations, and I see it as a pivotal piece in the Woodhorn Experience. As with any new build there were many delays and hold ups prior to the servery fit - out, Stellex continually supported and negotiated a time frame that at times was fraught and at others seemed impossible! The professionalism and flexibility of the Stellex team was greatly appreciated by the client team.
